The Nevada State Athletic Commission settled on a $50,000 fine for UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones for his brawl with Daniel Cormier.
The NSAC hearing took place today, with a panel of commissioners discussing possible ramifications for Jones’ actions. The state agreed that Jones showed remorse, but were insistent that a small punishment would not dissuade other fighters from such actions.
“To allow it to go with no more than a slap on the hand would be an offense to those who conduct themselves gentlemanly,” said NSAC Commisioner Skip Avansino.
Jones will also serve 40 hours of community service for the brawl.
“What I offer as a different way to monetize fine Mr Jones is an effort to capture value of his influence,” commissioner Pat Lundvall said when speaking about community service.
Jones also revealed at the hearing that the brawl with Cormier resulted in the loss of his sponsorship deal with Nike. Jones would not go into exact figures, but said the deal was over six figures.
Daniel Cormier will faced the commission today for his actions, and was subsequently Fined $9000 and will serve 20 hours of community service.
Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier will fight on January 3rd, 2015 at UFC 181 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
