Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Dear NFL, We Can't Wait for October Baseball

I decided to write a letter to the NFL: We can’t wait for October baseball. The drama of do-or-die games and switching off the NFL police blotter will be a welcome vacation.

We watch sports because we can escape from the daily horrors of society. That is no longer the case. Every day ESPN will sprinkle in a game preview or highlight, but they’ll fill our screens with court room drama much more often.

Court TV or Sports Center, you’re splitting hairs to tell the difference. We see more lawyers and legal analysts on ESPN, Fox and CBS than we do experts breaking down the big game of the week. This is why we need October.

I can’t wait to kick back an sink my teeth into a great pitching match-up. I can’t wait for the ups and downs of emotions with every inning and every pivotal game. I can’t wait for the reaction and overreaction to every little bounce of the ball in October. I can’t wait to be a sports fan again.

Dear NFL,

We Can’t Wait for October Baseball!

We the people of the sports world are sickened by all of your disgusting behavior. Do you think you can just treat us as badly as your players treat their loved ones?

We’ve stood by you and bought your jerseys. We donned your coats, hats and other apparel, blindly, for years. We’ve payed the ridiculously high prices for those and the tickets. Then, once we get to the game, we are over charged for parking and concessions. And for what?

Every day we turn on the T.V. and all we see is the bottom line scrolling another charge of domestic violence or other immature acts across the board. ‘Coming up next on SportsCenter’ no longer means an interview with a role model or game reaction to a great contest. It now is just a long line criminal charges that we are getting numb to.

Well, NFL, to heck with you. We’ve been here through thick and thin and all you’ve done is play us for fools. The people in these players’ lives may not be smart enough to leave, but we are. Good bye NFL we might see you in November. Maybe, by then, you’ll all be paroled. Either way, we no longer care, because the future is Jameis Winston and Johnny Manzeil.

Sincerely,

Mac Magee and the rest of a deflated sports nation
