2014 Week 4 CFB Game Picks

It was a poor week for the LWOS Game Picker last week. We have to do better than what could be accomplished by merely flipping a coin. In Week 4, we endeavor to get back on track. In another interesting note, the teams represented by the featured photo in Weeks 1-3 are 0-for-2014. We will accept cash not to feature your favorite team in the photo that accompanies upcoming game pick articles.

Last Week:

5- 5

(.500)

Season:

20 – 10

(.667)

There are fewer cupcakes this week. It will be this way for most of the rest of the season. Good.

2014 Week 4 CFB Game Picks

Clemson @ Florida State (Saturday, September 20th, 8:00 p.m., ABC)

This contest got much more interesting on Wednesday, with the news that Jameis Winston will sit for the first half. Clemson still doesn’t have the team to pull of the upset this year on the road, but it will be closer than expected. UPDATE: Winston will now sit the whole game. May be slightly closer than the original pick, but FSU still wins.

Pick: Florida State 31, Clemson 21

Mississippi State @ LSU (Saturday, September 20th, 7:00 p.m., ESPN)

This is the game that will reveal whether Dan Mullen’s squad will be a legitimate contender to make some noise in the SEC West this year. We like Dak Prescott, but we don’t like him quite that much.

Pick: LSU 38, Mississippi State 17

Oklahoma @ West Virginia (Saturday, September 20th, 7:30 p.m., FOX)

I so want to pick a home upset here. If I had any faith in Dana Holgorsen’s defense, I would. I don’t, though, so I can’t.

Pick: Oklahoma 42, West Virginia 31

Auburn @ Kansas State (Thursday, September 18th, 7:30 p.m., ESPN)

This is the marquee matchup of the week, as War Eagle leaves the plains of Eastern Alabama to invade the plains of Kansas. This should be a very entertaining game, as Manhattan is a tough place to visit, and the KState players and students will be plenty fired up for this one. I like the Tigers, but in a squeaker.

Pick: Auburn 31, Kansas State 28

Florida @ Alabama (Saturday, September 20th, 3:30 p.m. CBS)

The Tide QB situation still doesn’t seem completely settled, does it? It still will not matter. Tide rolls.

Pick: Alabama 45, Florida 21

Georgia Tech @ Virginia Tech (Saturday, September 20th, 12:00 p.m., ESPN)

Paul Johnson’s seat is slowly getting warmer. The Rambling Wreck could certainly use a big conference victory. They will not get it this week, as the Hokies will be angry about dropping that game last week in Blacksburg against ECU.

Pick: Virginia Tech 28, Georgia Tech 20

Miami (Fl) @ Nebraska (Saturday, September 20th, 8:00 p.m., ESPN2)

This is a big game for both teams. Nebraska is seeking confidence and validation heading into conference play, while Miami is looking not to fall to 2-2 this early in the season. Both have also been unpredictable so far, but the Huskers are at home.

Pick: Nebraska 35, Miami 28

Virginia @ Brigham Young (Saturday, September 20th, 3:30 p.m. ESPN)

Virginia’s defense is no fluke. Mike London might survive past this season after all. BYU is a legitimate threat to play in a New Year’s Day bowl, though, and their defense isn’t too shabby either. I like the Cougars at home.

Pick: BYU 24, Virginia 19

Iowa @ Pittsburgh (Saturday, September 20th, 12:00 p.m., ESPNU)

Pitt’s win over Boston College looks much more impressive now after last weekend’s inspired win by the Eagles over USC. Iowa is an enigma, and figures to struggle on the road even more than it has at home.

Pick: Pittsburgh 31, Iowa 10

Utah @ Michigan (Saturday, September 20th, 3:30 p.m., ESPN2)

This is an intriguing intersectional game. The key question is which Michigan team will show up? The Utes are better than people think, and I expect them to play an effective game of keep away in the Big House. Here is this week’s upset special.

Pick: Utah 28, Michigan 24
