If he didn’t make it obvious before, Hector Lombard wants it known that he has no respect for Tyron Woodley.
“Number one faker in the game is Tyron Woodley; he is a big, big liar piece of shit! Put it out there everywhere! I want everybody to see it!”
In an interview with Last Word on Sports’ Aaron Robbins, Lombard talked about his dislike for the #3 ranked welterweight.
“He can’t strike with me, I’m a better striker. He can’t wrestle with me, my grappling is better. He can’t beat me, I’m a real fighter, and he is not.”
Both Lombard and Woodley train out of American Top Team, but Lombard insists that training with the same team means little in their relationship.
“We never trained together, that’s the first thing and I’ve got to make it clear, Tyron Woodley is the biggest fake guy out there. He is so stuck on the training partner thing; it makes me wonder why he is being so fake.”
Lombard has looked outstanding as a welterweight in the UFC, knocking out Nate Marquardt last October in the first round, followed by a dominate decision win over Jake Shields at UFC 171. Lombard feels like fighters are taking note, shying away from him in the division.
“It’s been hard for me to get a fight at 170. That’s the reason I want to go to 185 and get some fights there. I don’t know what’s going on, but I just want to get a fight.”
Lombard even hinted at a potential rematch against current UFC middlweight Gegard Mousasi.
“I fought [Mousasi] like eight or nine years ago. I was given the fight on short notice. I would like to beat him up, I think he is overrated. I’ve never been impressed with him.”
After his loss to Mousasi in 2006, Lombard went on a 24 fight undefeated streak, with the majority of his wins coming by knockout. His UFC debut was spoiled by UFC veteran Tim Boetsch, who edged out a close split decision win over the former Bellator Middleweight Champion.
Lombard was expected to face Dong Hyun Kim at UFC Fight Night 48, but pulled out of the bout due to a herniated disc. He was replaced by the aforementioned Woodley, who won the fight by TKO one minute into the bout.
“He fought Kim, who is #10, but he won’t fight me. It has nothing to do with rank. Don’t make excuses like you have no intentions of going back in rank to fight guys. He is ducking me because he knows I’m going to take him out, that’s for sure.”
