Tuesday, the Cleveland Cavaliers unveiled All-Star Power Forward Kevin Love, not only a great pick-up for the Cavaliers; but also a statement to let the rest of the league that this year the Cavaliers mean business. As they look to make a serious push for the NBA Championship.
As many know by now, Kevin Love was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers from the Minnesota Timberwolves, for 2014 first overall pick Andrew Wiggins and 2013 first overall pick Anthony Bennett (along with a number of other pieces). If you need full details on the deal you can see them here.
This trade finally went down after months of speculation would it won’t it happen, but the trade happened mid-way through last week. Many argue that even though Minnesota have lost a star player in Kevin Love, that they might actually be better off, having added good young talent to their roster in the shape of Wiggins and Bennett.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have made the news more than once this offseason. The LeBron James home coming also sparked intense media attention on the Cavaliers. But now the news of the team adding Kevin Love has led many to believe that Cleveland will challenge for a Championship right away. Having such talent as LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love could bring Cleveland much success in the future, but it also brings pressure to win now.
Kevin Love has already confirmed that he is in for the long haul. And in Tuesday’s unveiling he was quoted as saying, “I’m committed to this team, committed long term to the end goal and that’s to win championships”. Love showed a lot of confidence, clearly showing he has faith in his All-Star teammates.
Not only do the team have three super stars on the roster they have been making moves to build a good strong roster over the summer. Most of the thanks have to go to LeBron James having recruited most of their free agent signings. The likes of Mike Miller and James Jones who played with James in Miami have already jumped ship to play in Cleveland. And the additions of former All-Stars Ray Allen and Shawn Marion are expected to be completed before the start of the season. Veteran Center Brendan Haywood also has joined up with the Cavaliers..
Kevin Love will wear the no 0 jersey while on the team, Love said, “I just decided that 0 was the right fit for me”.
Many are expecting big things for the Cavaliers this year, especially the fans in Cleveland that have felt so much pain in recent years, hopefully the combo of LeBron, Kyrie And Love can bring the team and the fans the Success they desperately want.
