Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Seattle Makes Bear Meat out of Chicago

It’s only pre-season but you’d never know that by watching the Seattle Seahawks. They came out before a sold-out home crowd with a regular season attitude — ready to defend their title as World Champions.

There are many words that describes Seattle’s 34-6 beat down on the Chicago Bears. Pummel, dominate, embarrassing are just a few to come immediately to mind. The Bears won the coin toss at the start of the game but it was apparent early on that would be the only thing they’d win while matching up against the Hawks.

Seattle Makes Bear Meat out of Chicago

It’s obvious that Seattle’s offense has found its niche and judging by the last two pre-season games, this team is even stronger than it was during the Super Bowl.

Percy “Show no Mercy” Harvin has recently stated that he feels better than he has since college and there is definitely a renewed pep in his step. Percy set the tone for the evening with a 46-yard kickoff return. As his quarterback will tell you, if Harvin isn’t running through you, he’s running by you.

Friday night’s game had an all-star cast from Marshawn Lynch’s seven yard touchdown in the opening drive to Seattle’s darling, quarterback Russell Wilson did his thing once again – completing 15 out of 20 passes for over 200 yards total. He threw touchdown passes to Jermaine Kearse and Christine Michael before going ahead and running in one himself.

Robert Turbin also made his presence know to the bears and Wilson and his offense did a great job of converting third downs and seemed to move seamlessly down the field. Chicago’s defense fizzled, and just couldn’t hold Seattle.

Seattle’s defense and special teams came to play too. Linebacker O’Brien Schofield sacked Jay Cutler, Jeremy Lane made and interception at the goal line and the hits on Chicago’s offense were a plenty.

One moment that is sure to cause some teasing in the Seahawk locker room this week is the 60-yard punt return by safety Earl Thomas. Earl was ready to run it in for a touchdown until he was caught by the Bear’s punter. (Well at least Chicago’s punter had something to smile about that on the plane ride home).

With all of the excitement from the win Friday night, the harsh reality is that was the last time for many players to be suited up in a Seahawk uniform. Coach Pete Carroll needs to begin weeding out players to bring his roster down to 75.

There has been lots of speculation on whether Terrell Pryor will keep a spot on the final 53-man roster. Pryor can be freakishly fast but he also has proven that he still has a lot to learn. It’s unlikely Pryor will be in that first set of cuts but what is less uncertain is if this team needs a third quarterback.

The Philidelphia Eagles have already dropped 14 from its roster and it won’t be long before we know what players from Seattle will be on the plane to Oakland for the Aug. 28 meeting against the Raiders.
