It’s every club’s biggest fear. Whether it’s the leaking of scandalous photos from the club, social media slip-ups, or even outbursts on the pitch; every team fears the publicity nightmare that ensues from player irresponsibility.
This issue isn’t anything football hasn’t seen before. From George Best, Eric Cantona, Paul Gascoigne, to Adriano and Mark Bosnich, these boys are among some of football’s more outlandish crowd.
Liverpool Sign Balotelli: Not So Fast… LFC requests Behavior Clause
With the finalization of Mario Balotelli’s transfer to Liverpool near, the Reds have taken precaution before signing the party-boy superstar. Sources say the English club is demanding a behavior clause before signing Balotelli. This request comes with understanding as Liverpool is coming off of yet another Luis Suarez biting incident, which was seen as a complete embarrassment by the club. Given Balotelli’s track record with late nights at the club with beautiful women, on-the-field dramatics, and jaw-dropping interviews, who can blame them? With LFC taking yet another striker gamble by the acquiring of Balotelli, can the behavior clause be the club’s saving grace?
This action speaks volume about Liverpool Football Club. This is a club that is determined to maintain the high level of class and respect that it’s presented for the past 122 years. Although they’ve had a rough go in the past with players like Luis Suarez and El Hadj Diouf, this time around they aren’t taking chances. Many may see this as over-precautionary of Liverpool, but do not be surprised if more clubs start requiring similar behavior clauses in player contracts. Especially in English and Spanish football, clubs strive to be recognized for wins, championships, and trophies, not for player antics and debauchery. In today’s world, coaches and management have more to worry about than pictures in tomorrow’s newspaper; every move a footballer makes is seen with today’s social media and fast-paced technology.
