If you would have told me months ago when Daniel Bryan began his rage against The Authority that it would end with the women deciding the outcome, I would have laughed.
In all seriousness, this feud should have been finished by Daniel Bryan and Triple H, but instead it has fallen to their spouses to prove which side truly is more dominant.
In recent weeks Stephanie has been the one, who along with her husband HHH, has looked the more dominant of the two. This isn’t exactly surprising considering Stephanie has a former World Champion in her corner whilst Brie can only call upon her sister Nikki for back up.
Add to that the rumour that Triple H could be making himself the special guest referee and it suddenly all becomes clear. Daniel Bryan was reported to be attending SummerSlam a few months back, and suddenly, all is quiet on the Bryan front. Why? Because it’s too easy to predict.
Is Bryan still recovering, or is he waiting to involve himself in the match between his wife and Stephanie at SummerSlam? Brie lost her job because of Bryan, she quit so that he could keep hold of his World title. Doesn’t that mean he kind of owes her? He shouldn’t really be leaving her in the lions den with only Nikki for protection.
Which will have the rumour mill buzzing about, not so much a return but at least a save on Brie’s behalf to set up something for Night of Champions that he should be fully recovered for.
Even so, the anticipation surrounding this match is absolutely massive; the fact that it’s a Divas match makes it much more significant and the fact that it is one of two Divas matches on the card for back to back pay-per-views for the first time in years! The two Divas have been training hard and really want their match to be one of the best on the card. After the ratings drops on Raw over the past few weeks, they really have a point to prove to their respective partners.
The match needs to deliver; there is no way this will be the end. This whole rivalry has been months in the making and when Daniel was injured, Brie was drafted in instead. For me Brie has to win this, Stephanie deserves a beating for the way she has been wandering around treating the talent on TV for the past year and hopefully she gets it and as Brie says she “humiliates” her to the extent where we don’t see her for a while. Stephanie has played a bad guy for a while and if Brie does beat her, there will be no story for her to come back to, meaning Triple H can take over the reins for a while.
But when all is said and done, as Michael Cole said on Monday Night, Brie still has to come to work on Monday night and Stephanie will still be her boss, so how significant will that fact be?
