Fantasy Wide Receiver Rankings 45-41

#45 Anquan Boldin

Year Age Team G REC Yards TD Tar Fum Fum lost
2011 30 Bal 14 57 887 3 106 0 0
2012 31 Bal 15 65 921 4 112 0 0
2013 32 SF 16 85 1179 7 129 0 0

Week 1 against the Packers, Anquan Boldin exploded into his new role as a 49er, 208 rec. yards and 1 TD. It was a great impression that had people heading to the waiver watering hole. After that, it was a 50/50 shot that Boldin would put on a fantasy show for his admirers and admonished any hope for consistency. This led him to the bench, fantasy-wise, for further review. A year later and the WR stable grew considerably. Forget that Michael Crabtree was injured forever last year, but now insert Stevie Johnson, Brandon Lloyd, and rookie Bruce Ellington to compete for time on the field. Anquan is a bruiser and one of the toughest at any position on the field so, don’t count him out quite yet.

#44 Marvin Jones

Year Age Team G REC Yards TD Tar Fum Fum lost
2012 22 Cin 11 18 201 1 32 0 0
2013 23 Cin 16 51 712 10 80 0 0

Jones is our 44th best receiver, but there is a lot of upside in this pick. Jones scored in spurts last year; he flashed major potential in weeks 6-8 and 14-17. The rest of the season, he was rather quiet. Jones compliments A.J. Green nicely, and there is solid chemistry between Jones and QB Andy Dalton. Jones saw 80 targets in his second season, less than half the amount Green saw, but that total should go up. He finished 2013 with 712 yards and 10 TD’s, and I think it is unlikely that Jones surpasses his touchdown total from 2013 this year. However, Jones could pass his yardage mark, as Dalton has looked sharp in training camp. Jones will finish with around 800 yards and 7-8 TD’s, as that stretch from week 14 to 17 should represent a majority his season in 2014.

#43 DeAndre Hopkins

2013 21 Hou 16 52 802 2 91 1 1

The Former first round pick has a chance to be a nice late round pick this year.  With Andre Johnson in camp and sure to see double teams all year Hopkins could see a fair amount of targets in year 2.  The key here is can he steal a few TDs from Johnson.  At age 21, we may see him develop into a nice WR option. The biggest fear I have with Hopkins is the lack of a stable QB situation.  This hurt him last year and could stifle any growth this year if it stays the same.  Draft him for the upside, but know he might be droppable if they start shuffling QB again.

#42 Emmanuel Sanders

Year Age Team G REC Yards TD Tar Fum Fum lost
2011 24 Pit 11 22 288 2 43 0 0
2012 25 Pit 16 44 626 1 74 3 2
2013 26 Pit 16 67 740 6 112 1 0

Emmanuel Sanders is an old face in a new place, having earned himself a lucrative free agent deal with the Broncos. He was a possession WR last year with the Steelers, only scoring double-digit points in 5 of 16 weeks. He joins a crowded pass-catching corps in 2014. Greatest strength: great hands, and reliable. Biggest weakness: likely to be the fourth or fifth option in Denver’s pass game, and the least familiar of Peyton Manning’s targets this season.

#41 Aaron Dobson

Year Age Team G REC Yards TD Tar Fum Fum lost
2013 21 NE 12 37 519 4 72 1 0

Last season, the Patriots WR group was full of optimism and promise in the eyes of fantasy players, but this year, with nearly the exact same core the Patriots receiving group seems to be forgotten. Dobson showed flashes of great potential last year, especially as a vertical receiving target. However, just as he was finding his rhythm in the Patriots’ offense he was sidelined with a foot injury, and then struggled to regain the chemistry with Brady when he returned. Adding to the injury worries, Dobson had foot surgery in the offseason. Dobson could provide fantasy value this year; however he has to compete with Gronkowski, Vereen, and Edelman for targets. Dobson is a deep league only option in fantasy football this year, however keep an eye on him during the season to see if he finds his rhythm with Brady again.
