Week 6 CFL Power Rankings

We have already completed five weeks of the 2014 CFL season, here are our collaborative Week 6 CFL Power Rankings.

Week 6 CFL Power Rankings

1) Calgary Stampeders

Calgary remains the only undefeated team in the CFL, sitting 4-0 heading into week 6. They grab this title by beating Edmonton, who were undefeated until last week’s game. A four-point win essentially gave the Stamps the top spot for this week, but took a lot of power to win by that differential. John Hufnagel coached the team well and his players executed the game plan. Bo Levi Mitchell was in command behind center and the defence dominated. Brad Sinopoli, a former QB, continues to be a surprise at wide receiver, making key catches at key times for the Stampeders. They should be continuing their undefeated season and at number 1 power spot at least another week as they host B.C.

2) Edmonton Eskimos

As mentioned above, the Eskimos lost by four points to Calgary at Commonwealth Stadium last week. They may just be closer to falling in the power rankings than climbing up it, as rookie head coach Chris Jones made some key errors that cost the Esks the game. He elected for a fake punt and run-and-pitch instead of punting inside their own 10 yard line. They edge the Bombers this week in the rankings as they almost beat the number 1 team, but the Bombers aren’t far behind. Edmonton has a bye this week as Chris Jones has a week to think over his errors.

3) Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Slotted in at number 3 this week, the blue and gold came out with a great response last week after a loss to the Eskies by making quick work of the Lions in on the road. The Bombers have Hamilton this week on the road and if coach O’Shea continues to get it right they should have no problem continuing their turn around year.

4) B.C. Lions

The Leos are situated here based on good work and bad work. The good included excellent back-to-back defensive showings in Regina and at home against Montreal. The bad was a loss at home to Winnipeg where the Lions simply had no answers on either side of the ball. It will not be easier this week as they are headed to Calgary for a date with the undefeated Stamps.

5) Saskatchewan Roughriders

A big win at home brings the Riders back from the dead zone. Durant may blow hot and cold, but the green line in front will have less work to do to protect him if Will Ford keeps establishing the run so decisively. Threats in the air and on the ground give Saskatchewan hope to rise up the ladder.

6) Hamilton Tiger-Cats

After a tight game against Calgary, the Cats came out with guns blazing to take an early lead against Ottawa. They remained in the drivers seat through out the game, with good production on both sides of the ball. Lefevour is a real threat as a QB and the Ticats secondary is now a force to be reckoned with (although injury rumors have it that Craig Butler sustained a injury, which would leave a real hole in the pass defence). Hamilton is poised to make progress like no other team in the east.

7) Ottawa Redblacks

Ottawa looked like an expansion team again in their 33-23 loss at Hamilton this past weekend. Chevon Walker was held to just 37 yards rushing and the Redblacks defence has no answer for Dan Lefevour.

8) Montreal Alouettes

The Als remain in the 8 spot due to a bye week. Of all teams who could have used a week off for fine tuning, it would be Montreal.

9) Toronto Argonauts

The Argos plummet to the bottom after a horrible performance in Regina on Saturday night. Injuries to Chad Owens, Andre Durie and Jason Barnes have brought this once high-powered offense grinding to a halt.
