Bills Extend RB Fred Jackson

Finally, here is some Buffalo Bills news that doesn’t involve Jim Kelly, Donald Trump, or Bon Jovi.

On Wednesday, the Bills announced that they had agreed on a one-year contract extension with star running back Fred Jackson. Jackson, 33, has been with Buffalo since coming out of the WFL in 2007 and could have been a free agent at the end of the 2014-15 NFL season.

Though he has never quite been up to the standards of the best running backs in this era, there’s a reason Fred Jackson is still with Buffalo. He has stayed consistently good over the last 7 years, and has even contributed to the team on kick returns in that time. Jackson is coming of a 2013 season where he rushed for 890 yards, 9 Touch downs, and 4.3 yards per carry, these are impressive numbers for a rusher in a two man backfield platoon.

It’s been a respectable career with the Bills, and with his years possibly coming to an end, we shall see if Fred Jackson can work a good backfield depth once again. This can potentially help the Bills offense, who already has the possibly deadly combination of EJ Manual and Sammy Watkins.

Reports have also surfaced that this does not mean CJ Spiller will be traded as the Bills have always liked the Spiller/Jackso one-two punch at running back in recent years. Spiller is also a potential free agent this off-season.
