Nick Diaz Signs 3-Fight Contract With UFC

For all the Nick Diaz fans out there, and those who just want to see him fight again, he just signed a 3-fight deal and will officially come out of retirement.  His brother Nate, however, has not yet penned a contract, thought his brother’s influence may just push him over that line to make a deal with Dana White and the Fertitta brothers.

Diaz is famous inside and outside of the octagon, oftentimes leaving fans guessing as to his next moves.  At this point it is unknown who his first opponent is, but it is highly speculated that it will be with former pound-for-pound king Anderson Silva.

If there is a bout between Diaz and Silva, it would likely be the main event in a UFC pay per view. It would serve as the first non-title headliner since Rashad Evans vs Dan Henderson at UFC 161. Even though it would not be a title fight, it would most likely be the highest draw of the year. Even though neither has fought in a while, they are still in the “top 5” of articles posted on MMA websites based simply on speculation of “the next move” from each of them.

Similar to a potential Diaz-Silva bouth, UFC 141 was Overeem vs Lesnar and, even though it was not a championship event, the popularity of both fighters made the event a big draw. There is no question that Silva vs Diaz would be a sold-out event wherever it may be held. A big factor that would determine if it was this year is Silva being granted to fight after his gruesome injury that happened last December.

Diaz has served as MMA’s bad boy for years and is known for his vulgar antics at weigh-ins and press conferences. He is also known for always representing his hometown of Stockton, California and representing the “209”. Even though he is not known for professionalism, and he really does not care what people think of him, people simply love him.

Dana White mentioned that people tweeted him about agreeing with Nick Diaz’s terms and constantly wanting him to get signed for a deal. Whether it be the fierce and aggressive style or his antics outside the octagon, fans want to see him fight soon as possible.

We can all hope to see Diaz fight Silva by the end of the year, but with him signing a 3-fight deal, it shows that he should be in the octagon before too long. It certainly is a travesty so see such an exciting and talented fighter just sit on the sidelines because of negotiation problems. Money will surely be flowing well for him now.
