Fantasy Tight End Rankings
#25 Coby Fleener
Year | Age | Team | G | REC | Yrds | TD | Tar | Fum | Fum lost |
2012 | 23 | Ind | 12 | 26 | 281 | 2 | 48 | 0 | 0 |
2013 | 24 | Ind | 16 | 52 | 608 | 4 | 87 | 1 | 0 |
Fleener had a decent sophomore season, but nothing more. With Dwayne Allen’s season-ending injury during Week 1, Fleener had the starting TE slot all to himself all season long, but delivered only a middle-of-the-pack scoring season, averaging just 5.1 points per game. He did however, seem to overcome the problem with dropped passes that plagued him during his rookie campaign. Greatest strength: Coby has seven straight years’ worth of experience catching passes from Andrew Luck, dating back to #12’s freshman year on the scout team at Stanford. He’s spent six of those seasons in Pep Hamilton’s West Coast offense. Biggest weakness: his size and strength haven’t manifested in the NFL as well as they did in college. He should be a more physical player than he is.

#24 Levine Toilolo
Year | Age | Team | G | REC | Yrds | TD | Tar | Fum | Fum lost |
2013 | 21 | Atl | 16 | 11 | 55 | 2 | 14 | 0 | 0 |
With Tony Gonzales’ retirement, Levine Toilolo will take over the starting tight end job in a pass-friendly Atlanta Falcon’s offense. Toilolo is a very tall tight end (6’8), and provides a big target for Matt Ryan, especially in the red zone. Toilolo is a very raw product, often relying on his height to come down with balls. Look for him to generate most of his points in the red zone this year, as Matt Ryan loved throwing touchdowns to Tony Gonzalez who had 8 last year. This is a guy who will definitely not crack the top 20 in TE’s, but is worth a pick if you need 2 TE’s and are in a deep league.

#23 Scott Chandler
Year | Age | Team | G | REC | Yrds | TD | Tar | Fum | Fum lost |
2011 | 25 | Buf | 14 | 38 | 389 | 6 | 46 | 1 | 1 |
2012 | 26 | Buf | 15 | 43 | 571 | 6 | 74 | 2 | 1 |
2013 | 27 | Buf | 16 | 53 | 655 | 2 | 81 | 1 | 1 |
Last season, for the first time in his career, Scott Chandler played all 16 games for the Buffalo Bills. In doing so, Chandler was the leading receiver for the Bills in 2013 with 53 catches and 655 receiving yards. But, Chandler only had two touchdown receptions. The tall, big-bodied, 6’7, 270 lbs tight end is a big target to throw to. EJ Manuel utilized him for the games he was healthy for. Scott Chandler has a real chance to flourish in this upcoming season for many reasons. First, the Bills receiving core is one of the strongest they have had in a long time with Mike William whom they acquired out of Tampa Bay, Sammy Watkins, the prolific rookie wide receiver out of Clemson, and Robert Woods who always remains a speedy threat. Because Williams and Watkins will draw double teams, this will allow Scott Chandler to thrive as linebackers will struggle to cover him due to his immense size and abilities to get behind them on passing downs. Secondly, with Chandler’s size and great route running ability, the red zone is a place that he can really make a name for himself as his size will help create mismatches on slower linebackers or a much smaller safety that can’t reach as high as Scott can. Finally, Chandler’s key and reason he had a great season last year was because he stayed healthy which enabled him to play all 16 games. When he’s healthy, he can be as good as some of the best tight ends in the game — injuries however, will decimate Chandler and his ability to produce. Look for Chandler to thrive in this revamped and solid looking Buffalo Bills offense especially with a 100% healthy EJ Manuel back looking to avenge his injury prone rookie season.

#22 Antonio Gates
Year | Age | Team | G | REC | Yrds | TD | Tar | Fum | Fum lost |
2011 | 31 | SD | 13 | 64 | 778 | 7 | 88 | 0 | 0 |
2012 | 32 | SD | 15 | 49 | 538 | 7 | 80 | 0 | 0 |
2013 | 33 | SD | 16 | 77 | 872 | 4 | 113 | 2 | 2 |
Based on previous years, Antonio Gates seems like a strong option at tight end, having finished with at least 90 points for the past five years, including finishing as the 9th highest scoring player at his position in 2013. But this does not tell the whole story of a season which started very differently to how it finished. Gates began brilliantly, yet fell away as Ladarius Green and Keenen Allen were used more. As a result, Gates had at least five catches in five of his first seven games, but reached this mark in only two of his final nine. Now aged 34, Gates will still have some relevancy in San Diego this year as a reliable option for Phillip Rivers, but his fantasy value is severely limited as River’s third option behind two rising stars.

#21 Dwayne Allen
Year | Age | Team | G | REC | Yrds | TD | Tar | Fum | Fum lost |
2012 | 22 | Ind | 16 | 45 | 521 | 3 | 66 | 1 | 0 |
2013 | 23 | Ind | 1 | 1 | 20 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
He was a popular choice for a break out performance last year but a hip injury wrecked that idea. He is back and supposedly fully healthy ready to do what we all thought a year ago he would. I am sure the Colts are happy to have him back as well because last year they didn’t have much production from his position. I do like how late you can get this player; he is going in the 13th round in the most recent ADP charts. He scored on his only reception last year; now that makes me excited. Sleeper alert!
