Free agent power forward Rashard Lewis has agreed to sign a one-year deal for the league minimum with the Dallas Mavericks. The news was first reported by Marcus Spears of Yahoo! Sports:

Lewis, a 16-year NBA veteran, played for the Seattle Supersonics, the Orlando Magic, and the Washington Wizards before spending the last two seasons with the Miami Heat. He was a very effective scorer during his younger days, once averaging more the 20 points per game for three consecutive seasons (2004-07). For his career, he has averaged 14.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
Last season, Lewis shot 41.5 percent from the field while averaging 4.5 points in 16 minutes per game.
While Lewis, at 34-years-old, likely won’t have a very big role with the team, his signing gives the Mavericks a low-risk insurance policy for Dirk Nowitzki who can space the floor with his consistent three-point shooting.
It is the most recent move for a Dallas team that is making a lot of noise this off-season. Nowitzki recently signed a new three year deal with the Mavericks. The Mavericks also picked up Chandler Parsons from Houston earlier in the week, when the Rockets refused to match the team’s 3-year offer sheet to the restricted free agent. This all comes on the heels of the Mavs draft day trade to bring in Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton from the New York Knicks.
