The latest rumour doing the rounds on social media websites is that Adrian Sutil’s time driving the Sauber this season maybe prematurely over. Due to a string of bad races from both drivers and less funding than team mate Esteban Gutierrez, reserve driver and 2013 Caterham F1 driver, Giedo Van der Garde could be brought in as early as this weekends Hockenheim German GP. Already scheduled to take part in Fp1 and having done so on previous occasions as well as taking part in both in season tests instead of Sutil, it would not be a great surprise to see if this happened.
Sponsored by an assortment of Dutch companies and well know clothing brand ‘Mcgregor’ already on the side of the C33, Van der Garde could easily be parachuted into Sutil’s cockpit as his sponsors have apparently grown tired of the Sauber team’s poor performances this year. Therefore, with no money, it appears he has no seat with Sauber needing all the funds they can get and with strong Mexican backing, Gutierrez looks to be safe and so Sutil looks to be the obvious victim.
If Van der Garde were to come in, it wouldn’t be the worst thing. Having faired strongly against more experienced team mate Charles Pic last year and having showed speed again in his Practice outings, the likeable Dutchman looks to be a strong candidate, if not for now, but for a 2015 seat with a team.
We wait to hear in the next few days if this rumour has any truth to it but with Adrian Sutil shutting down his twitter account, one thing that can be taken away is that all is not well in the Swiss outfit, especially where Sutil is involved.
