The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced the signing of free agent forward Brenden Morrow to a one-year contract worth $1.55 million.
The 6-foot, 205-pound Morrow played 71 games for the St. Louis Blues last year in which he produced 13 goals and 12 assists. He averaged a mere 11:54 in ice time per game over the course of the season.
The 35-year-old veteran has spent the past couple of years trying to find a solid fit following his departure from the Dallas Stars after 13 seasons with the organization. For a player who is currently on a steady decline towards the end of his professional career, it probably isn’t ideal for Morrow to bounce around as much as he has.
With the hardworking mentality head coach Jon Cooper has successfully instilled within Tampa Bay’s system, it would seem that a guy like Morrow could potentially be a contributing piece to the team’s overall puzzle.
The Carlyle, Saskatchewan native has tallied 262 goals and 567 points over the course of his 921-game NHL career. He was drafted 25th overall in the first round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
