The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed center Brandon Dubinsky to a six-year contract extension worth an annual average value of $5.85 million. The new deal also contains no-move and no-trade clauses as well.
Dubinsky, 28, tallied 16 goals and 34 assists for 50 points in 76 games with the Jackets last season. He led the team in penalty minutes with 98 and faceoff winning percentage at 52.9 percent. During the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs, he put up six points [one goal, five assists] in six games.
Coming off a career-high season for assists and reaching the 50-point plateau for the second time, it’s no wonder the 6-foot-2, 216-pound Dubinsky was offered such a lucrative contract by Columbus general manager Jarmo Kekalainen.
“Brandon brings tenacity and determination to our team every time he takes the ice and he’s been an integral part of our growth and success over the past two years,” said Kekalainen. “Thanks to the commitment and support of our ownership group, we are excited that Brandon will continue to be an important part of the Blue Jackets family for many years to come.”
Dubinsky was acquired by Columbus in 2012 in the deal that sent Rick Nash to the New York Rangers. The Anchorage, Alaska native has registered 99 goals and 184 assists for a combined total of 283 points in 498 career games in the NHL. He has also recorded 631 penalty minutes over the course of that time.
