Chelsea Transfer News
Chelsea are, and always will be subject to a plethora of transfer speculation. Here are all the players that have been re-signed, released, transferred out, transferred in, loaned out, and all the other players that Chelsea are looking to buy/sell.
RE-SIGNED
John Terry- The mighty Captain has been resigned on a one-year deal.
Mark Schwarzer- The veteran goalkeeper recently agreed to a one-year extension after having an impressive end of the season given he had to fill in for an injured Petr Cech.
Jamal Blackman- Third choice goalkeeper. Hasn’t really featured for the club, but potentially has a promising future. Contract extended until the summer of 2019.
Kenneth Omeruo- Contract extended until the summer of 2018. Very promising future. Already a regular in the Nigeria squad and had a decent showing at the World Cup.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek- Possibly Chelsea’s most promising u-21 player. The length of the contract is yet to be announced. All info from ChelseaFC.com
IN
This summer Chelsea have already completed the signings of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid respectively.
Cesc Fabregas- Fabregas had a mediocre season with Barcelona and an even poorer World Cup with Spain. In 36 games in La Liga the attacking midfielder managed only 8 goals and 13 assists and in Brazil he helped Spain in getting failing to get out of the group stages in the World Cup. He might give Chelsea an edge in attack if Mourinho can help him regain his attacking edge and also teach him how to play as a box-box midfielder. He is not a direct replacement for Lampard, as the Chelsea legend ended his career in the CDM role. This is a role which could be given to Fabregas and then modified to his his and Chelsea’s benefit. Diego Costa- After the departure of Didier Drogba, Chelsea were left with Fernando Torres to lead the line. As we all know his 46 goals in 172 games is not impressive and certainly not what he bought to do. Now Chelsea have taken a chance on another Spanish (naturalized) forward who hails from Atletico Madrid (as did Torres). The difference being that Diego Costa is currently five years younger than Torres and is arguably twice the player. Last season with Atletico, Costa managed to score an impressive 27 goals in 35 games in La Liga and helped his team get all the way to UCL final, he even helped Atletico beat Chelsea in the UCL semi-final. All that can be said here is that there is A LOT of pressure on Diego Costa. Statistics via Goal.com.
TARGETS
Chelsea are also said to be targeting Thiago Mendes and Felipe Luis from Atletico Madrid as well.
Felipe Luis- Although he was arguably the best left-back in La Liga he was still denied participation in the World Cup by Brazil coach Luis Felipe Scolari. Chelsea are said to be interested and that they have even bid for him but have so far refused to meet his buy-out clause. According to the Daily Star (http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/386968/Filipe-Luis-Chelsea-move-stalls-as-the-Blues-REFUSE-to-meet-his-19m-buyout-clause.)
Thiago Mendes- Ex-Chelsea player. He was a big part in helping the Madrid based team capture the league title. Thiago is a free agent and is said to have agreed a deal already with Chelsea according to GiveMeSport.com(http://www.givemesport.com/469443-chelsea-agree-to-sign-tiago-mendes)
Emmanuel Emenike- Metro reports that Fenerbahce have offered Chelsea the Nigerian forward for the price of 15 million pounds. If Ba and/or Lukaku leave Stamford Bridge that would be quite a good deal. http://metro.co.uk/2014/07/01/chelsea-offered-15m-deal-for-fenerbahce-striker-emmanuel-emenike-4782380/
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang- Chelsea are said to be linked to the pacey forward from Gabon. He had a terrific season with Borussia Dortmund. According to GiveMeSport, Dortmund have not received any bids so far for the striker. http://www.givemesport.com/481731-borussia-dortmund-deny-pierreemerick-aubameyang-bids
Toni Kroos- Not a fan of this transfer, although the Bayern central midfielder is young and talented. He’ still been recently linked to a move to West London, but not as heavily as a few weeks ago with speculation moving towards a transfer to Real Madrid.
OUT
And as we all know, when one player joins, one leaves. In this case it is just not one player, but several players heading for the exit door. So far Chelsea have let go Samuel Eto’o, Henrique Hilario, Daniel Pappoe, Milan Lalkovic, David Luiz, Sam Hutchinson and the two legends, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole. Frank Lampard- After having an absolutely stellar career in the Premier League and most notably at Chelsea, the highest scoring Chelsea player has terminated his illustrious career with the club after his contract was not renewed. http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/3879266
Sam Hutchinson- The right-back who played six times for the London giants has been released after having spent the season on loan. http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/3941397/title/hutchinson-departs
Henrique Hilario- After sitting on the bench and getting paid for the past 8 seasons, Chelsea have made the wise choice of releasing him. http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/3941353/title/hilario-contract-concludes
Samuel Eto’o- The controversial striker was (gladly) released by Chelsea this month. http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/3941381/title/goodbye-etoo
David Luiz- BBC Sport report that the Brazilian international has completed his move to PSG in order to become the most expensive defender ever. He only cost the Parisian giants 41 million pounds. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/27545046
Ashley Cole- The BBC report that the English left-back has completed a move to AS Roma as a free agent. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28182668 Daniel Pappoe and Milan Lalkovic- Never featured for the first team, not much else to say.
POSSIBLY OUT
Ryan Bertrand- The English left-back might make a move to Anfield if Chelsea agree to let him go for 7 million pounds, according to the Daily Mail(http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2677754/Liverpool-considering-Chelseas-Ryan-Bertrand-solution-left-problem.html)
Marko Marin- Ever since Chelsea bought him he has been a real misfit. He was loaned out to Sevilla who won the Europa league this past season. He is currently being courted by Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt as per Metro.co.uk(http://metro.co.uk/2014/06/27/chelsea-flop-marko-marin-could-complete-transfer-to-eintracht-frankfurt-4778276/)
Romelu Lukaku- A fantastic “targetman” type forward. He is loud-mouthed and is very controversial with the media. According to Fox Sports, Lukaku still has decisions to make regarding his future.(http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/romelu-lukaku-admits-he-is-yet-to-make-decision-over-chelsea-future-070714)
Petr Cech- It’s a long shot that he will leave, but with Courtois back at his parent club, Cech is said to be unsettled. According to his agent and Sky Sports, both PSG and Monaco have contacted him, he says he does not want to leave unless he is forced out. Much like what he did to Carlo Cudicini. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11668/9369867/transfer-news-petr-cechs-agent-says-he-does-not-want-to-leave-chelsea-but-clubs-are-interested
BACK OUT ON LOAN
Chelsea are a team who have seemingly made a hobby out of loaning out players , they have currently loaned out Tomas Kalas, Wallace, Thorgan Hazard, Bertrand Traore, and Cristian Cuevas, all have been loaned back out for the upcoming season as per the Chelsea FC official website.
Tomas Kalas- The young lad had a good couple games with Chelsea, the highlight being the victory against Liverpool. He has been loaned out to FC Koln as they look to stay in the Bundesliga after recently winning promotion to the German top flight.
Thorgan Hazard- Hazard lives in the shadow of his older brothe (Eden). After having a tremendously good season with Zulte Waregem in Belgium, he has been re-loaned out, but this time to Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, an upgrade in the eyes of many and a far better league and club to help him progress.
Bertrand Traore- Prodigy. Signed this year and subsequently loaned out. He will spend the upcoming season on loan with Chelsea’s sister club, Vitesse Arnhem. Wallace- He was signed by Chelsea a year ago after the pre-season and spent a disappointing season on loan with Inter Milan. Given that Inter play with three central defenders, his playing time was limited to say the least. Next season he will be alongside Traore at sister club, Vitesse Arnhem.
Cristian Cuevas- The fullback has never featured for Chelsea and has been loaned out to Universidad de Chile, this could possibly be viewed as a backwards step for the player.
FINAL THOUGHTS– Although Chelsea are usually big spenders, they are quite calm right now in the transfer market. They have currently made two key reinforcements with Costa and Fabregas and their most import contract extension, which is with Captain John Terry. Sadly, Lampard could not stay on at the club, although he could return as a coach in the future. The loans the club have have made have been smartly executed, par Cuevas. If they manage to get a decent amount for players that could/should be sold, such as Marin, Bertrand, Moses, Jon Obi Mikel, Oriol Romeu, Gael Kakuta, and few more, then the London-based club could announce a profit for the year (being very optimistic here). The Blues should also consider relying more on their youth ranks and to call up players such as Nathan Ake, Nathaniel Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and many more talented young English players.
