Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray Diagnosed With Cancer

The Ottawa Senators released extremely saddening news Monday for general manger Bryan Murray. It’s been reported that Murray has been diagnosed with cancer. Bryan Murray will be undergoing testing and treatment as prescribed by specialists in collaboration with Ottawa’s team doctors themselves.

In the event of treatment and testing, it’s more than likely there will be of some absence of Bryan Murray to the team. It’s been stated that assistant general managers Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee will be stepping up to the plate on hockey operations while Bryan Murray is away receiving treatment.

The type of cancer and the exact nature of the treatment have not yet been specified.

As stated by the team in an official release via their website- “On behalf of the entire Senators family, the team is asking that the thoughts, prayers, and support of the entire hockey community are with Bryan and his family. There will be no further comment from the Senators organization.”

The 71-year-old Murray has been GM of the Senators since 2007, and has come under fire recently for some of his dealings with star players, most notably former Senators captains Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza, who are now with the Red Wings and Stars respectively.  He has also developed a reputation for some very shrewd moves, including the drafting of Erik Karlsson and the trade that brought Kyle Turris to Ottawa.

Get well soon Bryan as all of us here at LWOS are giving our thoughts and prayers for you to beat this deadly disease!
