After not having been selected in the NBA Draft, Melvin Ejim, 2013-14 Big 12 Player of the Year, was signed to be named to the Summer League rosters of both Philadelphia and San Antonio. He wasn’t signed to an NBA contract to either squad, but was trying to earn himself a training camp invite.
The plan for the Iowa State alum was to play in the Orlando Summer League with Philadelphia and then travel with San Antonio for the Las Vegas Summer League; however, Ejim hasn’t even been seen court side in either of the first two games.
If the rumors hold true, that means Ejim will be in a strong negotiation position with the Spurs. San Antonio, like all NBA teams, passed up on Ejim during the draft, but were reported to be in talks with him almost as soon as the draft concluded.
Philadelphia will play their third Summer League Game on Tuesday at 7pm EST on NBATV.
Melvin Ejim averaged 17.6 PPG and 8.4 RPG in his B12 Player Of the Year Award Winning season for Iowa State, helping the team to a 28-8 record followed by a Big 12 tournament victory. Ejim and the Cyclones finished as the #9 ranked team in the nation and were a #3 seed in the East for March Madness. They fell to eventual champion UConn in the Sweet 16.
