Nielsen Pro Tennis Championship: Pro Tennis Returns to the North Shore of Chicago

The 2014 United States Tennis Association (USTA) Nielsen Pro Tennis Championship returns to the Chicago area June 30th through July 5th. The $50,000 total prize money tournament features international touring players with rankings from approximately 50 to 200 in the world.

The first annual USTA Nielsen challenger tournament took place in 1984 and proceeds from the event benefit the North Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA).

In past years, the tourney has hosted current high ranking ATP tour players such as Rajeev Ram, John Isner, Sam Querry, Donald Young, James Blake and 2013 singles champion Jack Sock. In 2014, Bradley Klahn, Ryan Harrison, Somdev Devvarman, Ricardas Berankis, Michael Russell and Wisconsin native Tim Smyczek are scheduled to play in the tournament.

All matches will be held outdoors at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center, 530 Hibbard Rd., Winnetka, Illinois 60093. The intimate venue is a fan favorite due to the close proximity to the players and the action. Qualifying games start on Saturday, June 28th and Sunday, June 29th and are free and open to the public.

The first matches of the tournament begin on Monday June 30th with daytime and evening sessions. Quarterfinal sessions begin on Thursday July 3rd, with semi-final matches Friday July 4th and the tournament finals are Saturday July 5th.
