Rugby Canada Narrowly defeated by Visitors Scotland

Despite a strong effort put up by Canada, The Hosts narrowly drop their international test Match to visitors Scotland. The final score, with a few questionable calls was 19 – 17 in Scotland’s favour.

Although they did not win, Canada played a fantastic game both defensively and offensively. They had possession for more then 50 percent of the match and they where able to hold a strong defensive line against a big and strong Scotland side.

I was very impressed by the effort put up by Canada. The backs were well organized by Harry Jones. Also,   the forwards and the back’s were well connected courtesy of Phil Mack. I was very disappointed with a few of the calls made by the referee, especially in the final minutes of the match. This was a match where Canada could have definitely came up with the victory.

Despite being scored against within the first two minutes off a penalty kick, Canada was able to strike back also with penalty kick to tie the game up at 3. Canada then took over the lead with a try by Jeff Hasler. At the half the score was 13 – 8 for Scotland. Canada having a poor second half against Japan made sure they would not be out played this time in the second half. Canada converted two-penalty kick to put them up by one point. Scotland then came back t0 put them up by two with yet another penalty kick. Canada and Scotland both went on later to convert a single penalty kick each, which made the final score 19 – 17.

Unlike their match against Japan, Canada played a fantastic full 80 minutes of intense and great rugby. It was a very physical match and Canada’s forwards were up for the challenge. The tackling was well done and the rucks where hit very well.

Canada did have some trouble as their scrums and lineouts were not perfect. There where many collapsed scrums throughout the match. Canada also struggled a bit with their lineouts. There were a few miss throws and fumbles of the ball.

Canada’s backs were better organized defensively and offensively. Their defensive structure was much better and their offensive plays where very well executed. Canada’s back’s had some exciting runs by both Taylor Paris and Harry Jones. Both of these players being sevens players at one point.

In the end, the match was well fought and there was a lot back and forth rugby. It could have gone either way, but in my case sadly Scotland pulled out the W. Canada should not be disappointed as they played a great match.
