Truck Series Announces New Eldora Qualifying Format

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Tour announced the details for July’s race at Eldora Speedway. The event, headlined as the Mudsummer Classic, isn’t going to be the same format as a normal NASCAR event.

New Eldora Qualifying Format

The drivers will be placed in a random draw to determine an order for a two lap, single car qualifying session.

After qualifying, drivers’ times will be sorted into five 10 lap heat races, (2 laps longer than last years race) much like a World of Outlaws Dirt Track event.

The Mudsummer classic brings a unique stop on the tour, as NASCAR doesn’t run any other races on dirt courses. The top five finishers in each Heat Race will advance to the Feature event, making up the Top 25 starting lineup.

The rest of the field will be determined by a 15 lap Last Chance Race where the top four finishers will advance. However, the 30th and final position will be given to the first past champion or fifth place finisher in the LCQ.

It’s the second annual race at Eldora, after NASCAR hadn’t run there since 1970. Dirt was where NASCAR started, on the beaches of Daytona.

Now, NASCAR dirt track fans look forward to this, single event in the whole circuit. The feature will take 30 cars on a three segment, 150 lap race to determine a winner.

Segments will be split up into 60, 50, and 40 laps each; and drivers will have the option to pit under caution.

The race brings a new kind of racing aspect into the season and will certainly shake up the standings a little bit, but we won’t find out until July 23rd.

2. Matt Crafton 184/-1
3. Johnny Sauter 184/-1
