It appears that for all the Mexican money Esteban Gutierrez brings and the experience Adrian Sutil brings to the Sauber F1 team, they are not the front runners in the midfield they once were. With Peter Sauber being urged by many in the paddock to cut his losses and sell the F1 team, Sauber will need to up their game for Canada, but it’s unlikely to change much.
Although Sutil showed good overtaking in Monaco, which ultimately led to him crashing out, as well as Gutierrez who was in the points halfway through the race before hitting the barriers and spinning out, the car has clearly improved, but the long straights in Canada are likely to expose its weaknesses.
Sauber Canadian GP Preview
Sauber are in deep crisis, with lack of funds and a questionable driver line up, they appear to be stuck in a rut. Again, a chaotic race could help the legendary Formula 1 team who have been around for a long time but consistency is required, something their drivers are not providing at the moment.
Now with back markers Marussia in front of them in the Constructors championship, their determination to succeed and turn things around (as witnessed in 2013) will be at an all time high although in all honesty, their drivers will be a limiting factor in this. Sauber don’t have long to get back on track, with many changed needed to the team, and I would not be surprised if we see Dutch reserve driver Giedo Van der Garde step into the cockpit in the near future.
