Buffalo Bills pro bowl defensive lineman Marcell Dareus was arrested for Drag Racing in the Tony of Hamburg on Monday. The Hamburg Police Department issued the following press release.
On May 30th, at 3:16 p.m. The Town of Hamburg Police received a complaint of two vehicles, a black Camaro or Mustang, and a light colored vehicle, traveling westbound on Route 179 near McKinley Parkway, possibly racing. As patrol officers proceeded toward that location, another call was received that a white vehicle crashed near the Mongolian Buffet Restaurant. Officer Robert Paas arrived on location at the Mongolian Buffet and found that a white 2012 Jaguar left the roadway on Route 179, east of the entrance to the Mongolian Buffet, and had struck a tree in front of the restaurant. Witnesses at the scene stated that they observed two vehicles, a black Camaro and a white Jaguar traveling westbound on Route 179 near the north entrance of the McKinley Mall at a high rate of speed. They further confirmed that the Jaguar left the roadway near the entrance of the Mongolian Buffet, continued westbound over the grass and onto the parking lot of that restaurant, before striking a tree on the northeast front portion of the restaurant property, causing extensive damage to the Jaguar and damage to the tree. The Jaguar was operated by Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Marcell Dareus, age 24, of Hoover, Alabama.
Mr. Dareus was taken back to the Town of Hamburg Police Department, at which time he was processed, fingerprinted and released on an appearance ticket and traffic summonses. He is charged with Reckless endangerment in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor, Reckless driving and participating in an illegal speed contest, both unclassified misdemeanors as well as traffic violations. He appeared in Town Court with counsel for arraignment yesterday where he was released on his own recognizance. Dareus is due back in court June 17th, at 10:00 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the identity of the driver of the black Camaro. Official reports will not be released until the investigation is concluded.
Dareus was charged with possession of synthetic Marijauna earlier in the off-season.
The Buffalo Bills have announced that Dareus will not participate in the rest of the team’s OTAs happening this week, but is expected to participate in mandatory mini-camp later in June.
