2014 NBA Draft: Aaron Gordon Scouting Report

Aaron Gordon

Age: 18
Height: 6’9″
Weight: 220 pounds
Position: Power Forward
School: Arizona
NBA Comparison: Kenneth Faried

Another one-and-done freshman set to be selected very high in the 2014 NBA Draft, former Arizona power forward Aaron Gordon has all the physical and intangible traits to succeed in the NBA. Even more appealing, Gordon has far from reached his ceiling at only 18-years-old. While he may not develop into a superstar at the next level, Aaron Gordon definitely has what it takes to become a high-end role player in this league.

During his one and only season at Arizona, Gordon averaged 12.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game while leading the Wildcats to a 33-5 overall regular-season record.

Strengths:

Very high character guy that also has an extremely high baskeball IQ, allowing him to make quick decisions. Very athletic and versatile. Above average passing for a PF prospect. Physical player who won’t avoid contact. Excellent defender with the ability to guard multiple positions. Has a high motor, rarely gets tired or takes a play off. Moves well without the ball, putting himself in position for easy shots. Great offensive rebounder. He will only be 19-years-old his rookie year.

Weaknesses:

Needs to improve extensively on the offensive side. Is not a good ball handler, becomes useless the more he has to dribble. Not a good shooter from mid- or long-distance. Horrible and wildly inconsistent free-throw shooter, only making 42% from the charity stripe in college. His 220 lbs. is small for his 6’9″ frame, leading many to see him as a “tweener”, could definitely add some weight. Will have trouble playing at the 4 against larger PFs in the NBA. Not an extremely “lengthy” player, considering his height. Much better rebounder offensively than defensively, often not in position when the ball is shot.
