Canada 12 – 19 Samoa
Canada opened Day One of the London Sevens with a disappointing loss to Samoa. Canada’s tries were scored by Sean Duke and Harry Jones, and Phil Mack – who is playing in his 50th all-time tournament for Canada – added the conversion. Samoa’s points were tries from Faalemiga Selesele and Tia Mealoi and Fautau Otto scored the final try and added one conversion.
Canada 22 – 19 USA
Connor Braid played the hero in the second game of the London Sevens, as his two late tries sealed a 19-point come back for Canada over USA to win 22-19. USA dominated possession in the first half and scored scored three tries to lead 19-0 at the break, but Geraint John’s side held strong in the second frame and scored two from Braid, Sean Duke and Harry Jones to complete the come back.
Canada 17 – 17 Kenya
Canada needed a win in their final match of the day against Kenya to put them into the top eight, but it wouldn’t be for Geraint John’s men, as a last-second try by Felix Ayange levelled the score 17-17. With the draw, Kenya finished the pool stages in second position over Canada based on points-for and against. Canada’s tries were scored by John Moonlight, Justin Douglas and Sean Duke, while Kenya’s tallies were from Michael Agevi, Billy Odhiambo and Ayange.
