MLB April players of the month – Jose Abreu and Troy Tulowitzki.

White Sox slugger Jose Abreu and Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitski have been named Players of the Month for April according to MLB.Com

Jose Abreu just enjoyed his first ever month in the big leagues and celebrated that success by being voted the Player of the Month in the American League. Abreu has burst onto the scene this season slashing .258/.319/.617 while smashing 12 home runs and driving in 34. He also scored 22 runs and has amassed a 1.0 WAR to start the season for the Chicago White Sox.  The Cuban defector has been worth every penny that the White Sox paid for his bat this off-season and Jose Abreu looking like an early candidate for AL Rookie of the Year.  Masahiro Tanaka is looking to make his case for the award with the Yankees as well.

On the National League side of things there was absolutely no surprise to see short stop Troy Tulowitzki claim the top spot for the Month of April. He put together one of the best months in recent memory on both sides of the ball. Tulo is slashing at a .400/.500/.730 clip while driving in 25 runs, scoring 29 and hitting 7 home runs. He has also been stellar on defense and that reflects in his 10 defensive runs saved so far to open the year. Tulo has also amassed a 3.0 WAR so far in 2014.  The Colorado Rockies short stop is looking like an early favorite for National League MVP.
