Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Ryan Braun, David Freese and Brandon Morrow all placed on the disabled list.

It was a rough couple of days for a few Major League teams as the continuing rash of injuries this year added a few more casualties to the list. Thank you to our friends at Spots Injury Alert for the following information.

Angels third basemen David Freese has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger and placed on the 15-day DL. Freese has struggled quite a bit to open up the 2014 campaign, slashing at a .202/.266/.286 clip with only 8 runs batted in and 12 runs scored. The Angels have recalled third baseman Luis Jimenez from triple-A Salt Lake to replace Freese on the active roster.

The Toronto Blue Jays Placed RHP Brandon Morrow on the 60-day DL because of a torn tendon sheath in his right hand. Morrow originally was placed on the 15-day DL but was transferred to the 60-day DL after Morrow felt the index finder pop at the base of his hand. Morrow had been struggling through six starts, posting a 5.93 ERA with a 26/17 K/BB ratio in 27 1/3 innings.

After Morrow was placed on the DL, the Blue Jays announced that they have recalled Chad Jenkins from Triple-A and that J.A. Happ will make the start Monday in Morrow’s place. There have also been rumors of the the team calling up prospect Marcus Stroman, however at the time of this writing, that has not been confirmed.

The Milwaukee Brewers Placed OF Ryan Braun on the DL due to a strained oblique that occurred earlier in the week.  Braun has previously missed the past six games for the Brewers and the DL move will be made retroactive to April 27th, which means he will be eligible to return to the team on May 12th.

Braun had the following comments about his status, “I think for a lot of reasons it makes the most sense — for me, for the team, just looking out from a long-term perspective,” he also added, “We’re headed in the right direction. If we weren’t headed in the right direction, we would have made the move immediately. But it’s definitely gotten better. The oblique is one of those trick injuries”.

Braun is off to a fantastic start this season, he currently has a .301/.361/.591 slash line with 6 home runs, 18 RBI, 17 runs and 3 stolen bases. He has been one of the main reasons that the Brewers are off to such a hot start and currently rest on the top of the National League Central.
