The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of Toronto FC, Week Seven

Toronto FC make their way out to Dallas to face the current leader in the Supporters’ Shield race, only to be sent home disappointed. In the 88th minute, striker Blas Pérez sealed three points for FC Dallas and crushed the hopes of TFC coming on top of the Eastern Conference. This loss leaves Toronto at 3-3-0 in the season at 2 points behind Sporting Kansas City and Columbus Crew, who are respectively tied for first with 11 points.

Here we take a look at The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of Toronto FC, Week Seven as they faced FC Dallas

The Good

Issey Nakajima Farran and Jackson were the focal points of the attack. Always finding space in-between or behind defenders, the two Toronto wingers caused havoc for the Dallas backline. Showing strength and pace, new signing Nakajima-Farran scored his second goal in four matches, giving future opponents something to fear in upcoming games.

The Bad

Communication is the key to every successful team, and TFC show that they haven’t really clicked for the second week in a row. Last week against Colorado there were passes made in open areas, only to have all the surrounding players stand and watch as it rolls out of play or into the opposing team’s possession. This week showed defensive communication errors as balls were sliding through and the defense fall under the pressure of Dallas’ aggressive style, conceding 16 corners and 14 fouls. Both of Dallas’ goals came from set pieces.

The Ugly

Fitness issues and injuries were the downfall to TFC yet again. With so many key players out for another week, a lack of depth in the midfield and striker areas has been the main point of discussion. Michael Bradley and Jonathan Osorio were only at 50% of their usual selves and lead to a sloppy midfield who could not form proper build up plays to the lone striker, Gilberto. With a two week break until the next match, the Toronto fitness team has to come up with improved results on the players before Toronto hosts New England at BMO Field.

Last time Toronto pulled a win over the Revs was last August, thanks to an early goal by former Toronto midfielder Matias Laba. Toronto will have to fix their injury concerns and field a full strength team, as New England is looking to pass TFC in the rankings, currently only one point behind.
