Former military sniper and #8 ranked UFC middleweight Tim Kennedy defeated #5 Michael Bisping at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Nations finale in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Kennedy dominated nearly the entire fight, sweeping the judges’ scorecards with scores of 50-45, 49-46, and 49-46.
The American took Bisping down early in the first, exerting heavy pressure and maintaining top control for the remainder of the round; including both mounting Bisping and taking his back. In a more lenient scoring system it would be a 10-8 round.
Bisping evened it up in the second, keeping it on the feet and using his patented kickboxing to score points.
The remaining three rounds were more of the first, with Kennedy seeking to take it to the ground and Bisping wanting to stay upright. Unfortunately for “The Count,” Kennedy got what he wanted as he clearly won the final three rounds.
This is Kennedy’s biggest win to date, and a match-up with the winner of UFC 172’s Luke Rockhold-Tim Boetsch bout makes sense. For Bisping this is his third loss in his last five fights, putting him in middleweight limbo. A fight with Mark Munoz would appear to be the right move here.
In other news, Canadian Elias Theodorou won the middleweight crown of TUF Nations with a second-round TKO victory over fellow countryman Sheldon Westcott (and shouted out his mom in the process). Welterweight Chad Laprise got the nod in a split-decision victory over Olivier Aubin-Mercier for the other TUF Nations crown.
