Michigan Wolverines Nik Stauskas and Glenn Robinson III declare for NBA Draft

Two members of the Big 10 Champion Michigan Wolverines have declared for the 2014 NBA Draft as Nik Stauskas and Glenn Robinson III made their intentions known in a joint press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Nik Stauskas, a 6-foot-6 sophomore guard who led Michigan in scoring with 17.5 points and 3.3 assists per game last season. Stauskas led the Wolverines with 118 assists last season.  Many see Stauskas as a potential late lottery pick in the 2014 NBA draft, Draftexpress.com currently has Stauskas projected at 17th overall.

The 2o-year-old Stauskas, is yet another in a long line of up and coming Canadian basketball players.  Born in Etobicoke, a suburb of Toronto, Stauskas played high school basketball at Loyola Catholic.

Glenn Robinson III, a 6-foot-6 forward who averaged 13.1 points and 4.4 rebounds in 2013-14, is projected to go anywhere late in the first round through the middle of the second round.

Robinson III, is the son of Glenn Robinson Jr., the first overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft.  The Gary, Indiana native played high school basketball for Lake Central, in St. John, Indiana.

Sophomore big man Mitch McGary has not yet decided if he will declare for the draft, or stay with the Wolverines. McGary, a 6-foot-10 forward, has only recently returned to the court from a “lower-back condition” that derailed his sophomore season. He averaged 9.5 points and 8.3 rebounds in only eight games during an injury-plagued campaign before undergoing back surgery.

The Wolverines lost in the elite eight of this year’s NCAA Tournament.  The losses of two of their best players will be a big blow to the basketball program, and Stauskas and Robinson will need to be replaced.
