According to a report that first surfaced on TMZ and was later confirmed by the San Jose Mercury News and the NFL Network, Miami police are investigation San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in connection with a woman’s complaint. The official report does not say what her complaint is, but many sources are stating that she is alledging that she was sexually assaulted.
The official incident report was obtained by CSN Bay Area who report that 49ers wide receiver Quinton Patton, and Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette are also included as suspects. Details on location are a little unclear, as the CSN Bay are reports state that the incident allegedly took place at Lockette’s Miami area apartment, while TMZ indicates it occurred at the Viceroy Hotel in Miami.
CSN Bay Area reports that the an unidentified woman went to Lockette’s apartment in Miami and that Kaepernick and Patton were there. She later “mixed some drinks for all of them and gave them shots.” She claims the men “told her that in order to drink the shots she had to ‘hit’ the bong which contained marijuana.”
The woman states that she had a past sexual relationship with Kaepernick. And that she was feeling light-headed and went to the bedroom to lie down. She indicates that Kaepernick came into the bedroom and began kissing her and then undressed her. He left the room and said he would be right back, and while he was gone Patton and Lockette were watching her from the doorway. She told them to leave, and they left. She then blacked out.
The woman states that she woke up in a hospital bed, and doesn’t recall how she got there or who took her there. She states that she did not have intercourse with Kaepernick or anyone else before blacking out, but it is unclear if any evidence of intercourse was detected at the hospital. It is also unclear if the victim or police believe she was drugged.
For now the police have labelled the incident as suspicious, and the investigation will continue.
The 49ers released the following statement from General Manager Trent Baalke: “The 49ers organization is aware of the recent media report regarding Colin Kaepernick and is in the process of gathering the pertinent facts.”
Kaepernick is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He was reportedly negotiating a new contract and large pay increase with the 49ers this off-season.
