A fantastic game between Tottenham and Sunderland last night finished 5-1 to in the home teams favour. Goals from Christian Eriksen, Harry Kane and Gylfi Sigurdsson and a brace from Emmanuel Adebayor helped them to finally get a big win in the Premier League.
It was a great night for Harry Kane, who scored his first ever Premier League goal and also played great football throughout the night, not just the goal. For a 20-year-old, Kane caused a lot of problems for Sunderland. He nearly scored a second goal, capitalising on a poor Sunderland defence to get the ball past Mannone, but not the goal line, Adebayor having to help it across the line. A start was given to Kane because of a Roberto Soldado injury, but he proved with his performance that he was capable of starting any game.
There was one man who played out of their skin. That man was Christian Eriksen. One goal, two assists. He’s been on form recently, but tonight especially. From set pieces he looked dangerous as he stepped up, however none of them were successful that night. Eriksen is right-footed, but tonight he showed how he could easily use his left foot to create a goal too. A left-footed cross to Adebayor allowed the Togolese striker simply to let the ball hit him and go in. The goal to go ahead was yet another good cross in by Eriksen, this time his right foot set up Kane to tap another goal in. Accurate crosses simply cannot be defended. It was good movement from Kane to get the goal, for he did not stand still in the box, jinking in and out to get the better of Wes Brown.
The third time Spurs scored, it was the third time Eriksen was involved. This time it was a goal from The Great Dane. A square pass from Nace Chadli set up Eriksen to place the ball into the bottom right corner from outside the box with his left foot. It did clip Bardsley on the way through to goal, which made sure Mannone had no chance of a save. Eriksen had a fantastic night at the Lane and really gave the fans something to cheer about. Winning by four goals is a good feeling to have.
Gylfi Sigurdsson once again got on the scoresheet, with a good finish inside the box assisted by Younes Kaboul. This was another goal scored by him in stoppage time. By scoring the late goal, he completed the rout of Sunderland and showed how dangerous Spurs can be at home.
The Lilywhites are now only five points away from rivals Arsenal, who sit in fourth place. Could they possibly achieve the target many fans had set at the start of the season? There are still many games to play and therefore many points still to gain, or lose. If Tottenham can just keep going, win their remainder of the games then maybe, just maybe, the club may return to the Champions League.
