Just one day after Pete Carroll was given a three-year contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks, his opponent in Super Bowl XLVIII opponent John Fox got a three-year contract extension with the Denver Broncos. Fox led the Broncos to an NFL best 13-3 record this season, their third straight playoff appearance, and an AFC Championship before losing to the Seahawks in the Super Bowl.
John Fox had one year left on his current four-year contract and was scheduled to make $3.5 million in 2014. That contract is now cancelled and Fox will make $5.5 million in each of the next three years, a nice raise for the head coach.
Fox also underwent unexpected heart surgery that put him on the shelf for part of last season, when he was replaced by defensive co-ordinator Jack Del Rio. He did return to lead the Broncos down the stretch run and into the playoffs.
The Broncos have loaded up in the off-season with DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib, and Emmanuel Sanders being added to the team. Fox knows that his next step is to take the team back to the Superbowl and win it while he still has Peyton Manning at the helm. Manning is entering the final year of the three-year deal he signed with the Broncos in 2012.
