DeSean Jackson Signs With The Redskins

One of the biggest free agents of 2014 is finally off the boards.

On April 2nd, former Eagles wide receiver and three time Pro-Bowler DeSean Jackson signed with the division rival Redskins for a throw-year-deal. Washington caps off a solid off-season with a big boost on offense with Jackson.

DeSean Jackson had by far his best season in 2013, where he posted 82 receptions for 1,332 yards, 16.2 yards per carry, and nine touchdowns, while leading the Eagles to an NFC East Division title. The combination of QB Robert Griffin III and Jackson on offense is dangerous on paper, but questions remain if it can work on the field?

After all, there’s a reason Jackson is not in Philadelphia anymore. His attitude problems for one thing have been too much for the Eagles to handle. Having three years left on his contract with the team, Jackson made constant demands on new contracts, proving to be a burden.

There are also well-publicized rumors of Jackson’s involvement with a gang in Southern California. While he has never been charged with a crime, gang ties and perceptions are important to the NFL after last year’s Aaron Hernandez situation.

Those are two things that the Washington Redskins will now have to deal with. However, if DeSean Jackson is able to focus more on his talent rather than his off-field issues and antics, and if Washington can get some protection for RGIII from their offensive line, then the Redskins have their go-to-guy in the passing game.
