Sorry Seahawks fans, but despite what many reported last week, you won’t be getting DE Jared Allen.
The Bears signed division rival Vikings defensive end Jared Allen to a four-year $32 million deal on Wednesday. Allen, 31, has played in the NFL for 10 years, and these 10 years are some of the best from a defensive end in recent NFL history. Recording 128.5 sacks, 441 tackles, and 554 combined tackles, Allen has been a household name for Chiefs and Vikings fans and a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks and offensive co-ordinators.
Despite his age, Jared Allen has not acted like he’s gotten older. He’s recorded double digit sacks in eight of his ten seasons. Get this; those two seasons where he posted under 10 sacks were in his early years with the Chiefs.
Jared Allen continued to be a force in 2013 when he put up 11.5 sacks, 33 solo tackles, and 52 combined tackles. He’s got plenty of juice left in him at this rate, and the Bears got a huge upgrade on the defensive side, one they desperately needed. Allen should immediately slide into the hole on the defense vacated by the departed Julius Peppers who was released and signed with the Green Bay Packers.
So while Allen may be in The Windy City, it doesn’t look like anything will blow him away.
