Terrelle Pryor Wants The Raiders To Release Him

The Raiders have heavily been involved in the off-season, but it looks like they are not done making moves and headlines just yet.

Quarterback Terrelle Pryor, entering his 3rd season, has requested to be released by the team, as reported by Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie, himself. Pryor, 24, hasn’t really had much of a chance to prove himself, as a backup for his first two seasons, and starting part of last season before being benched. With 1,798 yards, seven touchdowns 11 interceptions, a 57.4% completion rate, and a 69.1 passer rating, it won’t look like he’ll impress interested teams anytime in the near future with his passing game.

However, as a rusher, Pryor has managed to impress. On 83 attempts, he’s rushed for 570 yards, two touchdowns, 27 first downs, and 6.9 yards per rush. This includes a league leading 106 yards in a week 17 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a game which included a 93 yard quarterback run for a touchdown.

Terrelle Pryor makes more sense as a running back than he does as a quarterback, so if he’s traded, several teams with weak running games could be possibilities. However, it’s tough to determine which teams would want him, as the Browns and Jaguars have already signed running backs during free agency.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Raiders handle this issue. Perhaps getting a draft pick for Pryor? We shall soon see.

The Raiders originally took Pryor, out of Ohio State, in the NFL’s supplemental draft, giving up a third round draft pick in the process.
