Fantasy Value on Red Wings forward: Riley Sheahan

Is your fantasy team struggling on the fourth line due to injury? Look no further than Detroit Red Wings forward Riley Sheahan.

Riley Sheahan is a big center standing at 6’2 and 212 pounds so already you can tell that he is a big body. He plays a gritty, fast-paced and hard hitting style. Not only is he a force down low and a pest for other teams to deal with but he is a good two-way center as head Coach Mike Babcock trusts him in many key situations. Sheahan has been playing the second line center role as Pavel Datsyuk, Darren Helm (off and on), Stephen Weiss, and Henrik Zetterberg have all been out since late January with injuries.

Sheahan has played 31 games and has scored 18 points. He continues to get better as the season goes on and is scoring more and more often of late.

Why get Riley Sheahan now? Well considering the Red Wings have been demolished with injuries throughout the season, it is safe to say Sheahan is in Detroit to stay for the remainder of the NHL season. Which makes him valuable because although he is a quite player on the stat sheet he is a rookie and is progressing every game.

Sheahan was the Red Wings first round pick, 21st overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He played NCAA hockey for the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
