Report: Raiders Likely to Deal for Matt Schaub

With yesterday’s signing of Ryan Fitzpatrick it appeared that Matt Schaub’s days as a member of the Houston Texans were numbered.  Reports today from Adam Schefter of ESPN indicate that the Oakland Raiders are trying to finalize a trade for the 32-year-old quarterback, giving the Texans a late round pick in the process.

Schaub had a disasterous 2013 season for Houston, who were expected to contend in the AFC South.  In 10 games, Schaub completed 61.3% of his passes for 2310 yards with 10 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.  His QB rating was a mere 73.0 In addition, he threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown in four straight games, setting a new league record.

In late October, in the middle of a franchise record 14-game losing streak, Schaub was benched for Case Keenum.  While Keenum was better than Schaub, he could not reverse the streak.

Schaub has had a generally good career with the exception of 2013.  He led the Texans to division titles in 2010 and 2011 and a playoff spot in 2012.  In seven seasons as the Texans starter, he is a two time Pro Bowler, and has thrown for over 4000 yards three times in his career.  He has 130 TDs, 84 interceptions and an 89.8 passer rating in his career with the Texans and Atlanta Falcons.
