Houston’s getting a lot more interesting now.
Recently the Texans signed QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to a two-year deal. Fitzpatrick, 31, is entering his 10th year in the NFL after being on four different teams, mainly with the Buffalo Bills, the only team he consistently played with as a starter. Last season he was a backup on the Tennessee Titans, but did get some chances to start when Jake Locker was hurt.
Most people have never considered Fitzpatrick a solid quarterback, but admittedly, he’s improved. In his last three years, the quarterback has had a completion percentage of at least 60.6%, and in 2011 threw a career high of 3,832 yards, despite a 24-23 TD-INT ratio.
Although Houston signed Fitzpatrick, I don’t think they’ll pass on selecting a QB in the draft. It appears that at the moment, they’ll make Fitzpatrick a backup QB to whoever they pick, or a stop gap starter until the rookie is ready.
There have also been numerous reports suggesting the team will release QB Matt Schaub as well. We shall wait and see what happens. The New York Jets are one of the teams rumored to be interested in Schaub if he is released in Houston.
