Pass Blocking: C-
Is fairly quick of the snap for as large as he is, but is not a strength. Has trouble changing directions and moving laterally, and is best when his man is in front of him. Struggles at times with loops and stunts, and is much better when the tackle lines up over him where he does not need to adjust laterally to make a block. Lets defenders get around him around him without much resistance at times, owing to his lack of agility and short arms.
Run Blocking: B-
Has a powerful frame and can generate movement in the run game. Benched 42 reps at the combine and has better pure strength and power than most center prospects the last few years. Shows a lot of pop in goal line situations. Gets to the second level surprisingly well, but could eliminate his target with more frequency. Is considerably less effective on pulls where he lumbers and really looks stiff.
Technique: C+
Has powerful hands, but are attached to short arms which can mitigate his effectiveness with them. His pad level is quite good for a college prospect and gets good leverage. Good job of keeping his feet underneath him and is not often on the ground.
Intangibles: B
Flashes a nasty playing demeanor, but does not draw unnecessary flags and plays smart. Rarely missed a snap as a starter, and possesses enough stamina to be a starter. A two-year starter who saw significant action as a freshman. Key component for the best scoring offense in UNC history in 2012.
Red Flags: Short Arms
Bottom Line: Centers who have the size, strength, and toughness of Bodine are tough to come by in the college game, which makes Bodine all the more appealing as an interior line commodity. His versatility to play guard will also serve him well early in his career as he looks to break into a lineup. However, his shortcomings in pass pro could always keep him on the hot seat.
Comparison: A. Q. Shipley
Grade: 8.0 (3rd Round)
