Will Total Divas Season Two Dictate The Women’s Division For the Next Few Months?

Total Divas has made its return to the E! network this weekend, with Summer Rae joining the ranks in place of JoJo Offerman.

During season one of the reality show Total Divas Natalya, Nikki, Brie, Naomi, Cameron and Eva Marie were all pushed into the Diva division picture and a “Real Divas vs. Total Divas” feud was born.

Many fans were annoyed that Eva Marie, with her lack of experience in the ring, was given a chance and was allowed to take part in a pay-per-view match ahead of many better equipped and highly trained divas.

I understand that WWE needed to push her at the time as she was on the E! Network show and they wanted to give the fans what they wanted, but she wasn’t ready. She was dreadful and I cringed for the poor girl. Luckily she has been off TV for a while and has been making appearances at house shows, which can only allow her to improve further.

Emma has also been called up to the main roster as of late but she could take the place of Kaitlyn in the Real Divas vs. Total Divas situation to retain her feud.

It was reported that Naomi should have taken AJ Lee’s title in the build up to Wrestlemania next month but following her injury, AJ has held the title for 272 days and instead it looks likely that the longest reigning divas champion in history could drop her title to either Nikki or Naomi at the April showcase.

There were rumours a few months ago that former four time Women’s champion Lita could be coming back at Wrestlemania 30 to face AJ. Lita was AJ’s idol when she was growing up and there is a video online of AJ Lee meeting Lita back in 2001. The hardcore diva will be in New Orleans that weekend to be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame so it wasn’t a very far-fetched rumour at the time.

The way Nikki has been built up as of late she seems the most likely to be taking the belt from Lee, having secured a clean win over her on Raw. The fact that she got the clean win was noted by many as perhaps WWE’s way of punishing AJ for her association with real-life boyfriend CM Punk. This seems fairly unlikely given that WWE have been very protective of Punk himself. If they wanted to punish her they could have taken her title away on Tuesday night at Main Event but she retained against Natalya, who I feel was one of her toughest challenges to date.

Three weeks away from the biggest pay-per-view of the year and the divas match is still yet to be announced, although it does seem that WWE are continuing to promote Total Divas at Wrestlemania and if a Total Diva does take AJ’s title, it would christen a new era for the Division and hopefully see a change in the competition for the better.
