Seahawks look to seal Golden Tate Deal, And Others

There was a collective sigh of relief in Seattle when the Seahawks re-signed defensive end Michael Bennett to a reported four-year contract worth $28.5 million – but there are still several key players from the Super Bowl Champion Seahawks who are still caught up in the free-agency frenzy.

Now that Bennett is a done deal, the Seahawks will most likely focus on getting wide receiver Golden Tate to return to Seattle next season. Immediately after the 43-8 Super Bowl win against the Denver Broncos, Tate said he’d be willing to take less money to remain a Seahawk but slightly changed his tune after his adrenaline slowed and possibly after a call from his agent.

This is the tough part of when free agency begins. Players that fans love have to make a tough decision on whether to remain a part of a team they know and play for fans they love or if they should follow the money.

The release of wide receiver Sidney Rice and defensive end Red Bryant has freed up some salary cap space and money that will hopefully help Seattle keep Tate.

Also included on the free-agent list are kicker Steven Hauschka, defensive tackle Clinton McDonald and quarterback Tavaris Jackson. The Hawks want to keep McDonald who had a breakout season and will probably work to keep Jackson as Russell Wilson’s backup. It was a little surprising that they didn’t put a franchise tag on Hauschka who has been a clutch player for Seattle.

Coach Pete Carroll and GM John Schneider built a Super Bowl Champion Team and so fans and players are living and breathing the teams recent motto, “What’s next,” until all the deals are penned. A tough reality during the free-agency period is that some beloved players may not return next year even though Carroll himself has voiced his wish to keep this team as intact as possible.

For now, Seahawk fans wait, take a deep breath and count to 12. Let the free agency begin!
