It now appears that Kobe Bryant will not play another game for the Los Angeles Lakers this season.
Officially, the Lakers plan to re-evaluate Bryant’s progress from the fractured lateral tibial plateau in his left knee that he suffered earlier this season, in an examination on Friday. As of right now his rehabilitation has been limited to stationary bike exercises. The Lakers also anticipate Bryant would need a couple of weeks to progress fully toward full-court practices. Given how late it is in the season, there may not be any time for him to get back into the lineup.
Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report states that the Lakers will make it official later in the week, and are expected to shut down Bryant for the season. An injury that had a prognosis of a six-week recovery time when it was first announced, appears like it will keep Bryant away from the court for the final 17 weeks of the NBA season.
Bryant recently talked about his slow progress in an interview with with kustoo.com, that was translated by Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.
“It’s progressing slowly. It really tests my patience,” Bryant said in a recent interview with Jacques Slade from Kustoo.com that mostly centered on his work with Nike. ”There’s only so much I can do. I find myself relegated to a bike. The first few weeks, it’s cool. I’m getting a good workout in. Third or fourth, I’m thinking I need to do something else. I want to play. I want to run. I want to do something different. But you got to do what you got to do.”
Its been a season to forget for Los Angeles, rushing their star back for meaningless end of season games just doesn’t make sense.
