Roberto Luongo didn’t take the news that his new teammate is a teammate no more, apparently he really wanted his tires pumped.

The 39-year-old Thomas is set to become a free agent at the end of the year. He signed a one-year deal with the Panthers after receiving a training camp tryout with the team. Thomas took a year off from hockey in 2012-13. This season he has a 16-20-3 record in 40 games for the Panthers. He has a 2.87 GAA and .909 save percentage.
Thomas led the Boston Bruins to the 2011 Stanley Cup Championship, taking home the Conn Smythe Trophy
The 33-year-old Ellis carries a $900,000 cap hit and is signed through next season. He is 5-6-0 with a 3.04 GAA and .900 GAA in 14 appearances for Dallas this season. It would appear that the Stars are acquiring the cheaper Ellis to be the backup to their new prize goaltending acquisition, Roberto Luongo.
