When Kobe Bryant fractured the lateral tibial plateau in his left knee on December 17th, it was said that he would be back in the Lakers lineup shortly after All-Star Weekend. However, after an examination with Lakers doctors on Friday, it has been revealed that he has suffered another setback, and the time frame for his return is unknown.
Kobe Bryant Not Close to Return, May Miss Rest of Season
“It’s been a slow process,” Bryant told reporters last week at All-Star Weekend in New Orleans.
“I just try to keep blinders on and do what I have to do,” Bryant said, “and not worry about too much what’s going on around you, but just try to stay focused on what your responsibilities are.”
Bryant is still suffering from soreness and swelling in the knee. He has not been cleared to participate in practice and workouts, only working on the stationary bike.
With just 27 games left in the Lakers season, a season that has largely gone down the drain for Los Angeles, the decision to shut down the star guard for the year might be a prudent one. Bryant has played in just six games this season. He missed the early part of the year recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon that he suffered in the 2013 NBA Playoffs.
The Lakers did get some good news though as Nick Young has been cleared to return to game action starting Sunday vs Brooklyn. He has been out since February 5th.
