Game one up and done, Canada managed to grind out a 17 – 14 win over Scotland. In a game which Canada dominated for almost the whole game, only a couple of small mistakes and positional errors allowed the Scots to score at all.
Last Word managed to catch up with Canada’s captain John Moonlight, and play maker Phil Mack for a quick chat after the game. I asked them what we can expect from Canada in this series. Moonlight: “we’re really just looking for consistency in this series, especially after [Las Vegas], another win here and maybe we can continue on as the series goes.”
Looking at the upcoming USA Game, and asking what to expect Mack said “They’re our closest rivals, they’re always heated games and they always seem to go down to the wire. We’re just going to put it all out there and hope for the best.”
New Zealand audiences have seemed to embraced the Canadian players, and they are very positively regarded here. Asking ow that atmosphere impacts on them as a team, Moonlight acknowledged the appreciation “Especially coming from Las Vegas, having people here cheering for us really gives us a boost.”
Looking at who Canada would like to face off against Mack was keen to take on some Kiwi action “You always want to be playing against the best in the world. We had an opportunity to go up against New Zealand [in Las Vegas] but we just made too many mistakes. Those are the games you really want to be in though.”
Canada will be up against the USA just before 4pm NZ time today (approx 9.48pm EST) in what will I’m sure be one of the biggest games the Canadians will have. Watching the team play against Scotland it is more than evident they are here to fight and here to win. Given how busy these guys are over the next two days I’d like to sincerely thank John Moonlight and Phil Mack for their time. I for one will be very much looking forward to seeing the #Rednation on the field again later today.
