Athleticism: D+
Does not have great athleticism, but what he has he makes the most of. High effort allows him to cover a fair amount of ground is great in pursuit. Accelerates very well once he is pointed in the right direction. Came off a 2012 season in which he played through a torn ACL and may take another year to get back to optimum strength in his knee.
Power: C
Is big and strong to play at linebacker, but not so much at end. Has good upper body strength to push through O-linemen, but does not have the ballast to anchor vs. the run. Was effective at the college level getting to the ballcarrier. Able to step and make a big play in the backfield on goalline stands on a consistent basis.
Technique: D+
Lacks ideal tackling technique. Will dive and fall off tackles. Does not show much pop on contact, and is more of a drag-down tackler. Plays with active hands, but does not have a particularly heavy punch. Has to come off the line lower as a DE, and generally plays to tall coming forward.
Third-Down: C
Is an effective third-down player, more so as a pass rusher than in coverage. Can bull rush and accelerate through blockers. Very good at getting his hands up when the pass is coming out of the QBs hand. Is effective in short zones, but does not always appear confident in space. Not a player I would trust in man against a TE, especially in today’s NFL.
Intangibles: B-
Is a mature individual; a husband and a father. Shows very good effort when on the field, and is dedicated to play through a serious knee injury is junior season. Hardworking but not what I would call intense or nasty. A nice guy, which is a good and a bad thing. Is significantly older than many others in the draft and could be a concern for his career potential.
Red Flags: Age, Tweener
Bottom Line: Like many players from Utah and BYU, Reilly is overaged which will hurt his draft stock. However, he is relatively safe given his background and skillset. His best position at the next level will be as a linebacker in a 34 defense most likely, but could gain bulk and strength to remain at DE, but is not ideal. Is likely a backup, but could be an excellent special teamer.
Comparison: Adrian Robinson
Grade: 7.8 (4th Round)
