It appears that the Los Angeles Lakers will finally get one of their high-priced players back on the court Tuesday, as point guard, and former two-time NBA MVP, Steve Nash is listed as probable for the game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. With Pau Gasol (groin strain, minimum one week) and Kobe Bryant (past the all-star game with fractured knee) remaining out of the lineup, the team can certainly use whatever boost Nash can provide.
Nash has appeared in just six games so far this season, suffering from a multitude of injuries, the latest being his bad back. Last season in 50 games for the Lakers, Nash averaged 12.7 points, 6.7 assists, 0.6 steals, and shot 49.7% from the field. While he isn’t the same player he was in his prime, his return will certainly be welcomed by the 16-31 Lakers as they attempt to make a second half push back to respectability.
While the other big names remain on the sidelines, the Lakers seem to be getting a little bit healthier overall. Guard Steve Blake is also expected to return Tuesday from his battle with an elbow injury, while guard Jordan Farmer is also a possibility for Tuesday’s game. If Farmer can’t play against Minnesota, it is expected he will be ready to play against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.
All the returns mean that the Lakers, who had been challenged for point guards of late, having only Kendall Marshall healthy, will now have four players capable of playing the position before the end of the week. With the Lakers looking to unload players for younger assets prior to the NBA’s trade deadline, one of the point guards could likely be available.
